Spanish Wells is a secluded 400-acre private residential community on a peninsula on the north end of Hilton Head Island. In bygone days when the Spaniards were exploring the southeast coast of what would become known as the United States of America, they landed on an area that is now Hilton Head Island to get fresh water, hence the name “Spanish Wells.”

One of the earliest of Hilton Head Island’s planned communities, Spanish Wells has evolved into the most serene and quiet of all the Plantations. Located off the beaten path, between the Calibogue Sound and Broad Creek, Spanish Wells has its own private nine-hole golf course and club.

Spanish Wells is a community that emphasizes waterfront privacy and tranquility. All home sites are at least one acre in size, and many feature fabulous views of Broad Creek, the Calibogue Sound, and the Intracoastal Waterway. Some of Hilton Head’s largest and most beautiful homes are found in Spanish Wells.

Much of the privacy in Spanish Wells is derived from it having no thru traffic. However, it is situated close to the Cross Island Parkway, allowing quick access to all of Hilton Head Island and Bluffton. One of Hilton Head’s most remote and secluded communities, it is not too far removed from all Hilton Head has to offer. Outside of Spanish Wells is a small sister community of twenty-four houses called Wells East. Amenities there include a recreation field and a pool. Residents of Wells East are also welcome to use Spanish Wells amenities.

Spanish Wells is located on the North End of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Spanish Wells can be reached from Spanish Wells Road, which is off Highway 278 and the Cross Island Parkway.
